About Us

Natural Art Garden Center started many years before it was actually a reality. Scott Edmondson, owner, along with Lynne Phillips, Manager, and Andrew Hurt, built from the ground up to create what is Natural Art Garden Center.
Scott has always wanted a garden center of his own to "slow" down later in life but we are speeding ahead. After looking at many properties that could be the one, it turned out the one we looked at two years previous. So, on Yard Crawl Day 2008, Scott started digging out what is now the driveway. By Thanksgiving 2008, we were setting up the layout of what is now the main greenhouse and retail center. As we settled in for a very long, windy and cold winter, Christmas is here and the shell of the greenhouse is up with the floor of the greenhouse being laid by Andrew and Dave.
Before we knew it, plants were arriving from Virginia and as far away as Oregon. We opened on April 11, 2009.
We are very proud of what the garden center has become. We hope you will join us in this adventure as we bring you the best plants and products around.

Now for the rest of the story....
I am sure you are asking why? Why a garden center and why in Toms Brook? Well, the garden center grew out of a necessity of the landscaping business to give the landscaping clients the opportunity to see and feel the designs Scott creates plus it is a way for us to share the great plants available and show our creativity. Where in the world is Toms Brook, Virginia.
We searched high, we searched low, we searched everywhere there was a small piece of land. We actually had a contract on land in Warren County but VDOT shot it down and wanted some very unreasonable demands. So, from then on out, before talking to the county or even entertaining the idea of talking to our real estate agent, we talked to VDOT first on any piece of land. We had looked at our current location several years previous but thought we needed to be in Warren county. Boy, am I glad we didn't set up shop elsewhere.
The frontage on Route 11 can't be beat. We talked to VDOT and they said, "YES". We were super excited and Scott drew up the site plan for the county. Got the well drilled, that was a difficult process because after planning, talking to all the right people, the location of the well was in the wrong place. Move it down 144 feet north and now we have so much water it busts hoses but two holes and a very expensive hole 710 feet deep! Water was going to be the deal breaker on the land. Thankfully, we have lots of water.
The county approved the site plan and has been great to work with. Every obstacle or difficulty was addressed and logically handled by the county staff. I would say if you wanted to locate your business here, it would be a great place to be!
